Full agency description
Greater Sand Dunes is the umbrella designation for the whole Killpecker complex north of Rock Springs — it is not a single riding area but a Special Recreation Management Area holding ten named sites, including the Killpecker Sand Dunes and Open Play Area, the staging area, Crookston Ranch, North Table camp site, Boar's Tusk, and the White Mountain and Cedar Canyon petroglyphs. It also contains two Wilderness Study Areas, which is the part to pay attention to: the open play area and the WSAs are different animals and the boundaries matter. It is free, camping is capped at 14 days, and it sits in genuinely wide-open Wyoming backcountry.
