Over 200 miles of unimproved backcountry road and single-track motorbike trail in the Hieroglyphic Mountains, 45 miles north of downtown Phoenix. Elevation runs from 1,700 to 3,500 feet, which stretches the season past what the valley floor allows — but summer is still off-limits here. The staging area itself has more than 10 acres of camping.

On State Route 74 (Carefree Highway) about 8 miles west of Lake Pleasant Regional Park. The UNMARKED turnoff is on the north side of the road between mile markers 11 and 12; the staging area is one mile north of the highway.
